Under the patronage of His Excellency Mr. Faisal Al-Haimus, Chairman of the Iraqi Securities Commission, a special ceremony was held today at Dijlah Village in Baghdad to launch the Environmental and Social Governance (ESG) Guide.
The event was attended by a distinguished group of representatives from the financial and banking sectors, academics, and experts in sustainability and corporate disclosure.
In his speech during the ceremony, His Excellency Mr. Al-Haimus emphasized that the launch of this guide is part of the Commission’s ongoing efforts to promote sustainability principles in the capital market, and aligns with global trends toward adopting ESG standards in financial institutions and publicly listed companies.
He added that the guide serves as a vital reference to help companies develop their environmental and social policies in a way that enhances transparency and accountability.
The event featured presentations that discussed the key themes of the guide, along with the main challenges and opportunities related to implementing ESG standards in the Iraqi market. A panel discussion was also held with experts to explore the importance of integrating environmental and social frameworks into companies’ strategic plans.
The guide aims to empower companies to strengthen sustainable practices, build investor confidence, and promote responsible corporate performance, in alignment with international standards and in support of Iraq’s sustainable development goals.
